Review: Coombs Family Farms

For seven generations, Coombs Family Farms has produced 100% pure, great tasting, maple syrup by taking special care of their ancient maple trees. Their grandfather said, "There are no shortcuts to creating pure maple syrup, do right by the forest, and it'll do right by you." We received their Pure Maple Sugar, Pure Maple Candy and Pure Grade B Maple Syrup to try out, and we were far from being disappointed!



Their Pure Grade B Maple Syrup has an authentic maple syrup taste. It is light and has a sweet, delicate flavor. Sadly, most syrups that you'll find at the grocery store contain HFCS even though these companies tout themselves as having an authentic maple syrup. Maple syrup is not just maple syrup since there are different grades and different classifications within the different grades, and they all have unique flavors.



I was a bit hesitant at using the maple sugar in desserts or tea, but I'm so glad I tried it since it improves the taste of food or beverages that require sugar. It is also a healthy alternative sweetener.

Coombs Family Farms 100% organic maple is USDA certified, and rigorously tested on a regular basis. Coombs Family Farms never uses pesticides or artificial ingredients and employs sustainable forestry and sugaring practices and was one of the early adopters and proponents of health spouts.

Maple Bacon Sea Scallops

2lbs sea scallops, rinsed and patted dry
10 bacon slices (preferably all-natural, no nitrites), cut in half lengthwise
1/2 cup Coombs Family Farms 100% pure or organic maple syrup

Wrap 1/2 slice of bacon snugly around each sea scallop and secure with toothpick. Set scallops on rack over broiler pan. Baste scallops with 1/4 cup maple syrup and broil 5 minutes. Turn scallops over and baste with remaining 1/4 cup maple syrup. Broil another 5 minutes or until bacon is crispy. Serve hot or at room temperature.
