Family Friendly Video Games

FamilyFriendlyVideoGames.com, a brand-new resource for simple-to-understand and straightforward information about video games that families can play together. The site will primarily focus on family-friendly games for home video game consoles, such as Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3, while also highlighting games for specific age groups on platforms such as the Nintendo DS, Leapster and PSP.

"It's difficult for a family to find relevant information when deciding whether or not to buy a video game to play together, because many of the traditional media outlets that provide video game reviews don't represent the family viewpoint," said Johner Riehl, founder and editorial director. "FamilyFriendlyVideoGames.com promises to provide easy-to-read reviews written from a family perspective that will quickly tell whether or not a game is family-friendly, and provide key highlights and low lights for each title."

The site will also make it easy to determine whether or not games are appropriate for different age groups, including toddlers (ages 2-4), kids (ages 5-8), tweens (ages 9-12) and teens (ages 13+).

As a resource for families, FamilyFriendlyVideoGames.com provides a Seal of Approval to games which are judged to be fun for the whole family to play together. The site also offers readers a chance to share their family's experiences with a game.

Although many former editors and video game writers move on to take PR or development roles, Riehl is making the less common transition from publicity to the editorial side of the video game industry. Riehl started working on video games in 1997 at The Bohle Company, working as the PR lead for the US launch of SNK's NeoGeo Pocket Color. After stints at Golin/Harris on the Nintendo PR team and Edelman on the Microsoft Game Studios PR team, he spent four years at Midway Home Entertainment working as Sr. Global Media Relations Manager until the company's bankruptcy last year.

FamilyFriendlyVideoGames.com strives to serve as a resource for video game buyers of all ages, providing simple and easy-to-understand information written from a family perspective, with an emphasis on games that are easy to play and fun for families to play TOGETHER.

The site was founded by Johner and Christina Riehl, who combined have spent more than 20 years working on issues relating to kids, families and video games. Johner is a long-time video game industry "insider," having worked on both in-house and agency PR teams promoting companies such as Nintendo, Microsoft and Midway. Christina is a child advocate, working as an attorney representing the interests of kids of all ages in California.
