Emmy-nominated television show, Sid the Science Kid is one of my son's favorite TV shows. I can understand why since this show is educational, yet entertaining. My son recently received the Sid the Science Kid: Everybody, Move Your Feet! book, which came at a time considering May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.
In this book, Sid's idea of the perfect weekend is lying in bed and watching TV. His parents aren't keen about this idea. He quickly learns that sitting around and not doing anything will make his body feel terrible. Sid and his friends find ways to exercise in order to stay healthy. I love how this book stresses on the importance of exercise, especially since child obesity is becoming more common. Sid the Science Kid: Everybody, Move Your Feet! is part of Harper Collins Let’s-Read-and-Find-Out Science® collection. This collection is ideal for young children, and it teaches them basic science concepts.
According to Melissa Johnson, executive director of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, which started National Physical Activity and Sports Month in 1983, “Americans of all ages need to incorporate more movement into their daily lives. Children need at least 60 minutes of daily active play. They need to run, climb, jump, and just get up and move around, away from their desks, the television and computer games.”
Parents and their children can enjoy and explore and learn activity about exercise at the Sid the Science Kid Super Fab Lab at http://www.pbs.org/parents/sid/activities.html?moveit and http://pbskids.org/sid/videoplayer.html?MoveIt.
